The regional Victorian city of Geelong is well-known for its gorgeous weatherboard homes, particularly in older and more established suburbs. Earlier this year, our Construction team was fortunate enough to work on a charming weatherboard worker’s cottage in the sought-after Geelong suburb of Manifold Heights.
Sitting on 614m2, the home retained many of its original and unique features, but its previous owners had tried to make the entrance more contemporary by turning it into a sunroom. To our team, the addition felt disjointed from the home’s classic aesthetic, so we sought to rectify it through an exhaustive cosmetic renovation.
The renovation involved numerous changes designed to tastefully modernise the home. These included creating an open-plan kitchen/dining living, introducing a fourth bedroom, and constructing a new carport, driveway and rear al fresco area.
Several cosmetic uplifts were also implemented across the house: new engineered floors with carpets in the bedrooms, a new kitchen, bathroom and laundry/WC, new joinery robes, and a neutral colour palette throughout.
But, we also recognised that the home deserved a throwback to its past. So, we set out to restore the facade to its original form, which not only paid homage to the property’s history, but thoroughly lifted its curbside appeal.
The entire process took around 30 weeks, with 12 of those spent on design and approvals and 18 on the build. In the end, the work turned out to be well worth it: our clients have enjoyed a huge jump in value for their property, whereby the $935,000 purchase price has since been upgraded to $1.5 million post-reno – marking an increase of nearly 30%.
