If you opened today’s Australian Financial Review (AFR), you may have spotted our name sitting pretty in a rather important lineup: the AFR Fast Starters list.

Every year, the list recognises Australia’s fastest-growing companies and start-ups, and ranks them according to their level of growth. This year, we’re incredibly chuffed to be sitting at number 25 – a truly stellar result for us and the Milk Chocolate team.

It’s an absolute honour to be included, especially given some of the big names that have appeared on the list before: Koala (last year’s number one), Prospa, NearMap, InfoTrak and Canstar, just to name a few.

So, how exactly does the list work?

Firstly, the 2021 list only takes into account companies that began trading on or after July 1, 2016. The criteria for entry included:

  • Entrants must be Australian based companies, must not be a subsidiary of a multinational corporation or a larger Australian entity

  • The majority of revenue must be generated organically

  • Entrants must not be companies which act predominantly as traders or fund-operators or in other highly cyclical businesses

  • Entrants must have more than one main customer, and

  • The majority of revenue must not be from government grants or other start-up funding

To enter, we also had to supply our revenue figures for FY19, FY20 and FY21.

We’re extremely proud that the work we put into our application paid off. Not only is it a significant recognition of the passion and drive of our team, but it also adds leverage across all aspects of our business: fundraising, B2B partnerships, client confidence and recruitment.
